Committee plans to bundle IK policy and rescinded items, seeks coordinated agenda presentation
Summary
Policy committee members agreed to bundle the new IK policy with a set of rescinded policies for coordinated first and second readings, and to organize the agenda so the consolidated IK item sits adjacent to the rescissions for clarity to the public and board.

The School Board Policy Committee reviewed plans to consolidate multiple past policies into a single, expanded IK policy and to rescind older policies absorbed into the new text.
Committee members said IK has grown into a “kitchen sink” policy incorporating content previously scattered across IKAA, ILBAA, IMBC and other policies. They discussed process: rescinded policies should appear on the agenda as a bundle and the new IK approval should be listed so the public can see both the elimination and approval actions together.
Why it matters: Consolidating multiple related policies into one reduces duplication and aligns the district’s policy set with state sample language, but it also means stakeholders may not have separately reviewed each rescinded policy unless the agenda is organized to show both the rescission and the new policy clearly.
Next steps: Committee members agreed to present the rescissions as a single bundled motion paired with the IK approval for first and second readings. They asked staff to craft the agenda so IK appears immediately after the rescission items and to explain the bundling in the meeting materials; no formal votes took place at the committee meeting.
