The Douglas County Board of Commissioners on Sept. 23 approved routine business items, took a licensing vote, recognized retiring county employees and recessed into executive session for legal advice.
At the start of the meeting the board recorded two absences: Commissioner Borgeson and Commissioner Fahey. The board approved minutes of the previous meeting and claims through Sept. 30 on a motion by Commissioner Morgan, seconded by Commissioner Rogers; the vote was recorded as 5-0.
The board voted 5-0 to approve the consent agenda (items A through L). The board also recognized two long-serving county employees: Freddie Brown of the Douglas County Health Center, who retired after 20 years, and Sharon Cerny of the Purchasing Department, who retired after 17 years. Douglas County Clerk Dan Esch told commissioners Cerny had been a longtime coworker and said he wished her well: "She was really a great teammate," he said.
In a public hearing the board approved a Class 1 license for Hartwood Veil Spa LLC doing business as Hartwood Nail Spa at 248 North 140 Fourth Street, Suite 105, with manager application for Amanda Thigh. Duke Tran appeared on behalf of the applicant and answered commissioner questions. Commissioner Morgan moved to approve the license; Commissioner Friend seconded, and the motion passed 5-0.
Under committee reports the board heard a brief budget and personnel update. The board then voted to go into executive session for the purpose of receiving legal advice; the motion by Commissioner Morgan, seconded by Commissioner Rogers, passed 5-0. Commissioners reconvened and adjourned the meeting; the final motion to reconvene and adjourn was made by Commissioner Morgan and seconded by Commissioner Friend and passed 5-0. The clerk recorded the meeting adjournment at 10:13 a.m.
The board’s recorded votes were routine approvals and procedural actions; the executive session was taken specifically for legal advice, as announced at the meeting.
