Westwood Estates master-plan hearing continued to Oct. 22 after packed public comment

The Coventry Planning Commission on Sept. 24 accepted a request from the applicant to continue the master-plan and zoning-change public hearing for Westwood Estates to Oct. 22, 2025.
Attorney Thomas Cronin, representing Hometown America Communities LLC, asked for the continuance to allow the applicant to revise its ordinance amendment and respond to staff and neighborhood feedback. Because the application was continued, commissioners limited public comment to brief remarks.
Dozens of residents attended and several spoke during the public comment period. Speakers urged the commission to limit new density and to consider the cumulative impact of years of lot splits and mobile-home replacements in the park. Common concerns included traffic and road width on Reservoir/Airport Road, loss of green space and backyard privacy, the adequacy of septic and well systems, and reports of potential property-boundary disputes between a neighbor and the applicant.
Elected officials joined public comment: State Senator Leonidas Raptakis, State Representative George Nadeau and Councilwoman Alisa Capaldi told the commission they had been contacted by constituents and offered to assist the town and residents on statutory or regulatory questions. After hearing comments, the commission voted to continue the matter to its Oct. 22, 2025 regular meeting and scheduled the applicant’s revised plan and staff report for that agenda.
Motion to continue to Oct. 22 passed unanimously.
