Board recognizes community donors and Emporia High semifinalists for National Merit Scholarship Program

The Emporia Board of Education used its Sept. 24 meeting to recognize two community items: a school supply donation and academic achievement.
The board extended thanks to First United Methodist Church and community partners for leading the 2025–26 school supply donation effort; district officials said the supplies supported students from pre‑K through 12th grade and helped ensure students began the school year with needed materials.
Trustees also recognized Emporia High School seniors Linus Langenfelder and Colin Wen for being named among the roughly 16,000 semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program. District staff described the semifinalist selection as the result of top state scores on the Preliminary SAT and noted semifinalists will submit scholarship applications and essays as they advance in the competition.
Ending: Trustees invited the community to continue partnerships supporting students and congratulated the semifinalists and school staff for the recognition.
