County staff recommend two candidates for Washington County audit committee; appointments to be placed on Oct. 7 agenda

Washington County staff on Sept. 23 presented two candidates for appointment to the county’s audit committee and said the board will be asked to place formal appointment items on the Oct. 7 meeting agenda.
Deputy Chief Financial Officer Sarah Kean described the recruitment and vetting process: four applications were received, blind copies were reviewed by county leaders (the CFO, internal auditor and oversight staff), and Kean interviewed the top two candidates.
Kean recommended Ryan Tollickson and Megan Hall. Kean said Tollickson is a principal financial analyst at the Port of Portland and holds a master’s of public administration from Penn State University; staff noted he previously worked at Washington County as an HVAC technician. Kean described Megan Hall as the director of operations for a payment-processing company called Clicks Group and an assistant professor at Linfield University focusing on the business of wine; staff said Hall has experience managing operations and compliance in regulated environments and that she emphasized accountability and the county’s long-term financial health during her interview.
Kean told the board that the audit committee consists of a minimum of five and no more than nine members and that the two recommended appointments would bring the committee to nine members. She said the committee generally meets twice a year: once several months after the start of the fiscal year and once after the annual comprehensive financial report is issued. Kean also said prospective members had been invited to attend the committee’s upcoming meeting this Friday.
Commissioners thanked outgoing and continuing committee members. Chair Katherine Harrington publicly thanked Mark Cooper for his long service on the audit committee and said she supported the vetting process staff used. County staff said they would place the two appointments on the Oct. 7 agenda for formal action.
