County approves purchase of used Caterpillar backhoe and 2023 Caterpillar AWD grader

Public Works staff said the rented backhoe performed well while used to address drainage and gravel issues at the industrial park and that the county had repeatedly used the machine during the season. The backhoe was described as a low-hour, state-of-Idaho return machine in essentially new condition.
Staff said the grader would replace an older grader that had experienced repeated mechanical failures and downtime; the county expects Caterpillar to accept the older grader as a trade-in. The court approved each purchase in separate motions.
Officials said the purchases were part of the department’s equipment replacement plan and that the new grader will provide all-wheel-drive capability for heavier-duty grading and fire-response needs. No purchase prices were announced at the meeting.
