Brandon Valley board approves new elementary attendance boundaries effective 2026-27

The Brandon Valley School District Board of Education on a voice vote approved new elementary attendance boundaries that will move portions of three attendance centers into the new Berkman Valley Elementary effective for the 2026–27 school year.
Superintendent Larson told the board the change affects students at Brandon Elementary, Inspiration Elementary and Robert Venice Elementary and that families in the impacted areas will be notified by letter. Highway 11 will serve as a principal east–west boundary line, and some parcels east of a bridge under repair were placed in the Berkman Valley zone so those students will have northbound access to school.
The district will identify impacted residences and notify families, Superintendent Larson said. Third-grade students at the affected schools may remain at their current building for fourth grade if families choose to keep them there; the district will not provide transportation for those students. The superintendent said the district will attempt to accommodate sibling requests where possible.
Larson said the district expects to assemble family responses over the fall and anticipates initial notifications around December. The staffing process will include approving an administrative position for the new school and opening certified and classified positions for internal transfers and hires.
Board members who asked questions during the discussion were given clarifications on boundary lines and access; no members recorded a roll-call vote on the motion. The board chair called for the motion, it received a second, and members approved the boundary plan by voice vote.
The board followed the boundary approval with consent and personnel motions that the chair also put to voice vote.
Board members and district staff said the boundaries were intended to be sustainable and to address the temporary bridge-related access issue in the southern part of the district. The district will return to the board if further tweaks are needed after enrollment responses are compiled.
