Bound Brook recognizes students and staff; superintendent says school year opened "very smooth"

The Bound Brook Board of Education on Tuesday honored students and staff of the month across the district while Superintendent Dr. Freeman told the board the new school year opened "very smooth," with several new programs and initiatives in place.
The board presented student-of-the-month recognitions from Lamont Annex, Lafayette School, Smalley School, Community Middle School and Bound Brook High School. Presenters named individual students and briefly noted favorites and aspirations, such as Jamari Santiago Tookes (Lamont Annex) and Brooklyn Baskar (Lafayette). The district educator of the month, Sarah Lebowski of Smalley Elementary School, was commended for classroom instruction and out‑of‑class activities; board remarks said 94% of her students either held or improved their proficiency on the NJSLA last year and 15 of 33 moved up a proficiency band.
Student board member Mister Musson reported on student perspectives and extracurriculars. He said students generally praised recently upgraded bathrooms but expressed mixed reactions to a new schedule and mandatory binders. Musson also gave upcoming dates: SAT testing for seniors and eligible juniors is scheduled for Oct. 29; official homecoming events were announced for Oct. 24 (game) and Oct. 25 (pep rally). He reported fall sports records the board noted: varsity football 3–1, boys soccer 6–1, girls soccer 5–3, girls volleyball 4–4, and boys and girls cross-country with several personal records and top finishes at recent meets.
The board concluded the recognitions with a group photo of students and families.
The remarks about the school-year start and student activities came during the superintendent’s report and the student board member’s report; the board did not take additional action related to those items at the meeting.
