Monroe City Council on Sept. 23 voted to award a Grow Monroe matching downtown grant of $6,300 to Tina and Bobby Bowling, owners of 704 Consignment & Boutique, to help with rental expense and upfit for their new retail business at 300 East Jefferson Street.
Donna O—Keefe, presenting the item, said the business had entered a two-year lease for 1,050 square feet and was eligible for the grant at $6 per square foot under the program formula. "They are eligible for $6 per square foot, which would allow them a maximum of $6,300, to be paid in two payments over that first year," O—Keefe told the council.
Council adopted a resolution awarding the grant, authorized the mayor to execute necessary documents, approved the incentive agreement, and adopted a budget amendment related to the award. No public opposition was recorded in the hearing.
Staff said payments would be made in two installments over the first 12 months of the lease; specifics of the incentive agreement were attached to the staff report. The transcript did not include a roll-call tally for the vote.
