Upland presents first-ever key to the city to longtime volunteer Ralph Cavallo

The Upland City Council presented the city’s first-ever key to the city to Ralph Cavallo at a council meeting, recognizing more than five decades of volunteer service on parks, library programs, youth sports and veterans projects.
The award acknowledges Cavallo’s leadership on local projects including the Upland Veterans Monument and Plaza, numerous baseball and youth-sports field renovations (noted in council remarks as Rudy Munoz Field, Bob Hargis Major Field and others), improvements to the Upland Public Library, and long service to the Upland National Little League and local civic clubs.
Council members from across the dais praised Cavallo’s decades of work. Mayor Pro Tem Rudy Zuniga said Cavallo consistently acted with the city’s residents in mind; Councilmember James Brightley described Cavallo’s projects as “living testaments” that created spaces for children and families; Councilmember Garcia highlighted his work on library programs and veterans’ projects. Cavallo, who told the audience he has lived in Upland since 1971, thanked volunteers and emphasized time with family.
State and legislative offices also recognized Cavallo. A field representative from the office of Assemblymember Michelle Rodriguez presented a certificate honoring Cavallo’s “leadership, service and dedication,” and an aide for Senator Eloise Gomez Reyes presented a certificate of recognition from the California State Senate.
As part of the ceremony the council also showed images and announced a new roadway name — “Ralph Cavallo Road” — on a stretch south of San Bernardino Road near Southfield Memorial Park. Council members noted photo opportunities and refreshments would follow the presentation.
The council recessed after the ceremony for photos and returned to the regular meeting agenda.
