Tamarac commissioners give consent to investigate joining class-action over PVC pipe sales

The Tamarac City Commission gave informal consent on Sept. 24 to allow the city attorney to investigate participation in a national class-action lawsuit alleging collusion among PVC pipe manufacturers.
At the meeting’s start the city attorney reported being introduced by a federal lobbyist to a New York law firm that is asking municipalities to participate in a class action alleging inflated prices for PVC pipe sold to governments and private parties. The attorney said the city would have an opportunity to participate and that doing so could lead to recovery of economic damages “without any cost to the city.” The city attorney requested the commission’s consent for staff to investigate that possibility.
Commissioners gave unanimous consent on the record (no formal motion), with Commissioner Patterson, Commissioner Wright, Vice Mayor Daniel, Commissioner Bolton and Mayor Michelle J. Gomez recorded as consenting. The attorney said the item was fresh and staff would follow up with details and any required formal approvals if participation were recommended.
