The Planning and Community Development Committee received a presentation on Sept. 23 about a Regional Center Area Plan covering the airport area, a component of the citywide S.A. Tomorrow planning initiative.
Bridget White, director of the municipal department (presenting staff), described the plan’s five priority sections — land use, mobility, public spaces, housing and economic development — and said the plan area overlaps Districts 1, 9 and 10 and includes major assets such as the San Antonio International Airport, North Star Transit Center, North Star Mall and McAllister Park. Staff reported the outreach effort included 11 planning team meetings, one digital design workshop, three online surveys and four open houses.
Committee members praised the community engagement and asked about coordination with rail and airport planning, infrastructure funding tools including bonds, incentives for private property owners and updating development standards. White said staff is coordinating with the Unified Development Code process and with airport officials and that the plan identifies a matrix of implementation priorities with potential partners and a timeline. Staff noted the airport-related planning was moved into a later phase because of its strategic importance.
A member moved to continue the item to the committee’s Oct. 2 session for additional consideration; the motion was seconded and passed by voice vote. The transcript records the motion as passed but does not identify mover, seconder or a numeric roll-call tally.
