The Highland Village City Council reviewed annual board and commission appointments during its Sept. 23 work session and approved a slate of citizen and council appointments, while removing one Parks and Recreation alternate member for attendance concerns.
Nut graf: Councilmembers used the annual appointments process to fill vacancies, move several alternates into full slots, and to exercise a removal provision in the City Code on an attendance basis. Council also received a briefing about the Denton County Appraisal District (DCAD) nomination process and was told incumbents in two DCAD slots indicated interest in reappointment.
Appointments and removals
City staff presented applicants and a proposed assignment list to council. By motion and roll call, council approved a resolution appointing members to the Board of Ethics, Community Development Corporation, Parks and Recreation Advisory Board, Planning and Zoning Commission, Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Animal Shelter Advisory Committee. Appointees included (selected examples read into the record by council): Peter Casey, Sri Karan and Alina Meehan to the Board of Ethics; Megan Glass and Matt Enslin as citizen representatives to the Community Development Corporation; and Lucy Turek, Jeremy Booker and Angela Garcia to the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The city clerk read the appointments aloud before council voted.
Council also considered attendance and performance under City Code. Councilmember Robert moved to remove Patrick Finch from the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (alternate place 2) prior to the member’s term expiration; the council approved the removal by vote.
DCAD nomination update
Council heard that the Denton County Appraisal District offered jurisdictions an opportunity to nominate one candidate per open place on the DCAD board for upcoming elections; staff said incumbents in the relevant places had indicated interest in reappointment and no public applicants had come forward at the time of the briefing. Staff said a formal nomination would be handled at the next regular council meeting if council wished to nominate a candidate.
Ending
Council completed its appointments and other board business by adopting the appointment resolution. Staff agreed to proceed with the related calendar and the resolutions were scheduled for formal action on the regular meeting agenda, where required.
