Hammond City’s board on Sept. 3 handled multiple property-rehab and demolition matters, setting status-review dates, granting one extension and continuing a demolition hearing for owner notice.
The board continued the demolition hearing for 642 Spruce Street to Sept. 18, 2025, to ensure proper notice to the owner (identified in the file as Gary Gable). A motion set the matter for status on 09/18/2025.
The board approved a first extension of the agreement to rehabilitate 4934 Ash Avenue; staff confirmed the status date and agreed to update the file. For a separate rehab agreement (referred to as “October aims” in staff remarks), the board set a status date of Nov. 6, 2025, after staff reported the contractor expected to complete work within 45 days but asked for a 60-day status allowance and requested updated photos.
For 7339 California, where staff reported a prior demolition order entered March 13, 2025, the board set an initial 30-day status on the homestead exemption issue and a subsequent 60-day rehab window pending removal of that homestead exemption; the first status date was set for Oct. 2, 2025.
At 6126 Harrison, contractor Felipe Hernandez told the board his client temporarily ran out of funds but now had funds to continue work and requested a 30-day extension; the board set a status hearing for Oct. 2, 2025, and ordered owners to appear. Hernandez also appeared regarding 5217 Homan, where he and the owner signed a contract and reported a deposit and an intent to begin work within a week or two; the board set a status date for Sept. 11, 2025 and ordered owners to appear.
The board also set a status hearing for 2104 Sherman for Oct. 23, 2025 at 9 a.m. to review progress under an existing rehab agreement.
Board members emphasized they set these dates to verify progress, owner responsiveness and contractor payments; several items included directions for staff to obtain updated photos and to follow up on homestead-exemption filings where applicable.
