Hammond City officials opened two competitive bids on Sept. 3 for the downtown train station project and voted to refer the submissions to the city’s engineering consultants for review and recommendation.
At the meeting, a city official read the bid materials and amounts. Gary Up Construction of Gary, Indiana, submitted a bid of $13,787,500. The Pangir Corporation submitted a bid of $13,768,368. The board voted to send both proposals to engineering for consultant review and tabulation before any award is made.
The referral is procedural: staff said the engineering consultants will examine the bid documentation, including bid bonds and required affidavits, and return a recommendation to the board. No contract award was made at the meeting.
The city did not provide further details at the meeting about the project schedule, funding source, or evaluation criteria. The board’s action was recorded as a motion “to refer this to engineering for their consultants to review, tabulate, and recommend,” which passed by voice vote.
City officials said they will return with the consultant tabulation and recommendation before authorizing any contract award.
