Parks director: Heritage Park design, pump track and LED/turf projects moving toward bids

He said a federally funded bike pump track at Veterans Park remained on hold pending release of federal funds that would allow the city to sign a contract. City staff are also moving forward on a large 2025 grant package and were close to a contract with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) to start work on multiple grant projects.
Gilley listed additional upgrades staff expect to complete by next February if contracts proceed: LED light conversions on selected soccer fields (Field 12 and Field 5 at Drake’s Creek and tennis lights) and turf installation on selected veteran park fields and Field 5 at Drake’s Creek. He described a long, department-wide process to finalize maintenance-shop plans and said staff expected to issue bid documents soon.
Why it matters: The projects would modernize athletic lighting, add synthetic turf to high-use fields and create new amenities such as a pump track, which would affect scheduling, maintenance costs and player experience.
