Depew community center seeks extension of temporary occupancy while NYS grant funds parking-lot, ADA ramp work

Representatives for the community center adjacent to Village Hall asked the trustees Sept. 22 for a continuation of a temporary certificate of occupancy for the first floor of their building while they complete work funded by a New York State reimbursement grant.
Deborah Turley, speaking for the center, said the organization was awarded a $125,000 reimbursement grant through New York State and has contracted with Sutton Architects and an engineering firm to produce stamped plans for a parking lot and a fully ADA-compliant entrance ramp at the rear of the building. Turley told the board the grant is fully executed and the plans are near completion; because the work involves site improvements and a parking-lot bid, construction is expected in spring or early summer after the village issues permits and the center obtains a contractor.
Trustees and staff clarified steps needed for a temporary-occupancy extension: the village requires stamped plans for the ramp and parking lot to issue the necessary permits. Village staff said that once the stamped plans and permit documentation are submitted they can put a resolution on the Oct. 14 agenda to extend the temporary certificate of occupancy by resolution. The center indicated its consultant team will meet this week with the village’s developer/engineering representative to finalize the plans.
In the meeting Turley requested roughly a six-month horizon for completing the exterior work; she said the center had already used a temporary small ramp and accessibility lift for some events and that the extension is needed to continue activities while the permanent improvements are bid and constructed. Village staff said they will review the stamped plans and noted that state requirements for any longer extension may require communication with the state agency that awarded the reimbursement grant.
The trustees did not deny the request and signaled that staff would process submitted stamped plans and bring a resolution to the next scheduled meeting (Oct. 14, 2025) to extend the temporary certificate of occupancy if permit paperwork is complete.
