Comcast outlines rural fiber deployment, commits to restoration and outreach in Boone County

He described two main construction methods — aerial attachments to utility poles (about 60% of the company’s work so far) and underground boring with pedestal installations for other areas (about 40%). He told the board Comcast commits to restoration and follow‑up if landscaping or grass fails after boring work.
Burton emphasized Comcast’s low‑income Internet programs for Indiana residents (advertised rates of $15 per month and other tiers) and said the company can supply subsidized devices for qualifying households. He said Comcast works with county highway staff and obtains required right‑of‑way permits and that the work is predominantly privately funded with some state program matching where the county supplied letters of support.
County staff and Burton discussed typical right‑of‑way locations and Comcast’s coordination with the highway department to minimize property impacts. Commissioners were told the company’s construction work sometimes detects and resolves nearly 77% of network issues remotely, reducing technician visits to customers.
Burton left contact information for county staff and asked that constituents direct questions about restoration or permit issues to his office and the county highway department.
