Pretrial supervision in Grant County shows high appearance rates, board told
Summary
Pretrial staff reported 148 active supervised cases and a 95% court-appearance rate among those completing supervision so far in 2025; officials said the program saves jail bed days.
Pretrial program staff told the Grant County Community Corrections Board on Sept. 2 that the county currently supervises more than 148 people pretrial and that among those who completed supervision so far in 2025, 95% attended all scheduled court hearings.
"We currently have over 148 active supervisions," said Jess, the county’s pretrial coordinator. "Of those that have completed supervision this year, we have a 95 percent appearance rate."
Jess also told the board that pretrial supervision can drive down jail costs by preventing unnecessary pretrial incarceration; board members cited a planning figure of about $40 per inmate per day for jail housing when comparing program costs and custody expenses.
Jess said she attended and presented at the National Association of Pretrial Services conference and that the county would hold a quarterly policy-team meeting on Sept. 23 to review the program’s sequential review process and possible updates.
Board members said the county will receive a state-provided pretrial dashboard soon that will show real-time statistics such as appearance rate and safety metrics and that the dashboard should improve local tracking and decision-making.
Ending: Pretrial staff said they will continue quarterly policy reviews and will present dashboard tools to the board when they become available.
