Residents raise traffic-safety and housing concerns at Warrick County meeting

During public comment at the Sept. 8 Warrick County commissioners meeting, two residents described local safety and housing concerns and asked the county to take follow-up actions.

Randy Lemons of Paradise urged the commissioners to address speeding and parking on Mica Drive and Park Place near the Liberty Credit Union and a car wash. Lemons said vehicles often travel at high speeds in a short stretch — he recorded examples and said he has seen sports cars and other high-speed traffic — and asked the county to consider traffic-calming measures such as a speed bump or clearer 20-mph signage. He also requested a localized overnight parking restriction to prevent long-term on-street parking on the west side of the street. County staff (Bobby) said he would assemble a list of signage and striping requests and review traffic counts and possible striping improvements; the commission agreed to follow up.

Ashley Hagen described ongoing maintenance problems in her rental at Creekside Apartments (formerly Tudor Manor) in Newburgh. Hagen said her thermostat and air-conditioning have not worked for about three months, that she lacks reliable cooling and has had episodes of flooding from failing drains. She said she had tried the trustee's office and legal aid and that the property owner lives in California. Commissioners and staff offered to follow up with resources and to investigage possible fair-housing or code-enforcement referrals; staff asked for contact information to continue outreach.

Both commenters emphasized safety and livability in their neighborhoods; commissioners asked staff for follow-up and potential signage, enforcement or referral to appropriate housing resources.
