The Greene County Board of Commissioners appointed Terry Jackson to serve as the county’s Emergency Management Agency director at its Sept. 2 meeting.
Commissioners said they conducted interviews last month and selected Jackson from an initial pool of about 10 or 11 applicants. The appointment was made by motion and approved by voice vote.
Jackson must sign a letter accepting the appointment and give two weeks' notice to his current employer before beginning work. Commissioners discussed Jackson’s background during the meeting, saying he has experience in emergency management and has worked with police, fire and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security; he is a Greene County resident. The board thanked outgoing EMA director Roger Axe for more than 30 years of service.
Why it matters: The EMA director oversees local disaster preparedness and coordinates emergency response with county agencies and regional partners. The quick start timeline means the county expects operational continuity while onboarding the new director.
What happens next: Jackson is expected to sign formal acceptance; the county will set a formal start date after that paperwork and his employer notice are complete, a timeline commissioners said would likely be about two weeks.
