Residents press council for enforcement on Central Heights Road speeding; police say speed trailer and enforcement planned

Sandra Cox said she often cares for her grandchild and fears a collision on the long, newly resurfaced stretch of Central Heights Road where drivers exceed the 35 mph limit. “I really don’t like going in the front yard and, you know, because I never know somebody’s gonna come through there,” she told the council.
City staff and a council member responded publicly. David Craig (city resident who helps coordinate with staff) said the city has addressed the problem several times and that enforcement presence must be consistent. The manager and Chief West said officers are actively assigned to address Central Heights; staff confirmed a speed trailer and a speed-pole recorder will be placed to gather speed data for several weeks to inform enforcement and engineering responses.
What’s next: Staff said they will continue targeted enforcement and place a speed trailer to collect data, and the mayor asked staff to follow up with the resident and return any necessary engineering or enforcement recommendations to council.
