The Huntington Woods City Commission on Sept. 16 moved to hire Andrew Paszowski as city manager and directed the city attorney to draft an employment agreement that includes the added responsibility of public safety director.
Commissioners cited Paszowski’s five months as interim city manager and prior service as director of public safety as reasons for the hire. In debate, members said Paszowski demonstrated responsiveness to residents and operational management, and they noted potential cost savings by combining the city-manager and public-safety-director roles.
One commissioner asked that the finalized agreement return to the full commission for review before the mayor signs it; that amendment was accepted by the maker and the second. The commission approved the hire by voice vote, with the mayor directed to execute an employment agreement if accepted by Paszowski and after the agreement is returned to the commission for review.
Paszowski thanked the commission and said he looks forward to working with the commission, committees and department heads to provide services and be fiscally responsible. Commissioners praised his communication with residents and his leadership of public safety.
The vote was recorded as a voice vote and minutes indicate the commission will prepare the employment contract and bring it back for formal adoption at a subsequent meeting.
Evidence: The mayor’s remarks introducing the nomination, commissioners’ debate about process and cost savings, the friendly amendment requiring commission review of the agreement, and Paszowski’s acceptance are all recorded in the meeting transcript.
