Trenton approves emergency $114,875 Harrison Avenue bridge repair; temporary one-way traffic planned

The Trenton City Council voted Sept. 15 to authorize emergency repairs to the Harrison Avenue bridge after a June inspection found deterioration of the west abutment wall.
DPS Director Sergeant told the council an inspection by a bridge engineer from Fishbeck flagged problems in June and that a request for action was submitted through the state's MyBridge portal. Following two competitive quotes, city staff recommended CA Hall to perform the work at a cost of $114,875, with funds available in the Major Street Fund. The council approved the recommendation.
DPS Director Sergeant said the tentative plan is to close one direction of the bridge to allow access from above to the abutment. "Only westbound on Harrison" will be closed during the work for a short period, he said, and the city hopes the closure will last "less than, hopefully, 10 days." He said the work likely will occur in mid-October. Council members asked that schools and affected stakeholders be notified before any lane changes.
The emergency authorization follows the city's twice‑annual bridge-inspection schedule, which the DPS director said identified the immediate need for repair. City staff said two quotes were sought and CA Hall was the recommended, responsible bidder. The motion to proceed passed unanimously by voice vote.
The council directed staff to coordinate traffic controls and to notify schools and emergency services about any temporary lane restrictions.
