Trenton City Council approves routine permits, proclamations and budgets; schedules commercial rehab public hearing

The Trenton City Council unanimously approved proclamations, appointments, special-event permits, small purchases and routine financial items during its Sept. 15 meeting and scheduled a public hearing for a commercial rehabilitation district at 3360 West Jefferson.
The decisions, taken by voice vote or unanimous roll call, included three proclamations (Constitution Week, “Think Train” rail-safety observance and Forging Manufacturing Day); confirmations and reappointments to boards and commissions; approvals for block parties and a “trunk-or-treat” event; and authorization of routine purchases and financial disbursements.
Council scheduled a public hearing for Monday, Oct. 6 at 6:45 p.m. to consider establishing a commercial rehabilitation district for property at 3360 West Jefferson (application submitted by 3360 West Jefferson LLC / Pickled pickleball club) pursuant to Public Act 210 of 2005, as amended. The hearing will allow the city to solicit public comment on the proposed district.
Other actions approved without extended debate included: - Reappointment of Cindy Mazurek (City Beautiful Commission), Janice Ritchie (Civic Commission) and Kevin Lucidi (Traffic Safety Commission) to terms expiring Oct. 1, 2028 (roll call recorded; Mayor Rezappa abstained on at least one item where indicated). - Receipt and placement on file of resignation letters from Mario Ferrante (Planning Commission) and Marlana Nasowitz (Downtown Development Authority) and authorization to send letters of appreciation. - Approval for two neighborhood block parties (Evergreen Street on Oct. 4 and Canterbury Street on Oct. 25) and a trunk-or-treat event in coordination with Parks & Recreation on Oct. 26 at Kennedy Recreation Center (subject to public-safety and food-service inspections where applicable). - Approval of a DDA request to purchase 50 holiday garlands for West Jefferson Avenue light poles for $9,500 (budgeted in FY2025-26). - Authorization to schedule, and to reschedule, certain regular council meetings: Nov. 17 moved to Nov. 24, 2025, and Dec. 15 moved to Dec. 22, 2025. - Approval to receive and place on file financial summaries and departmental reports, including the City Beautiful Commission minutes and the police department monthly report for August 2025. - Authorization of disbursements for Sept. 15, 2025, in the amount of $9,030,424.91. - A motion to hold a closed session immediately following the regular meeting to discuss ongoing litigation; the motion passed on roll call.
Votes on routine items were taken as noted on the record; where the clerk performed a roll-call the transcript records individual “yes” votes. Several items were approved by unanimous voice vote with no amended motions or recorded dissent.
Several items approved will require follow-up public notices or administrative steps (for example, the Oct. 6 public hearing notice for the commercial rehabilitation district).
