City says November ballots will be mailed; commissioners flag state effort to move primary date

Gilbert also raised a state-level policy discussion that is circulating among stakeholders to change Michigan's primary election date. "There is a very serious policy discussion going on about changing the date of our primary... They are trying to get it in for 2026," Gilbert said, and warned the change could affect filing deadlines.
A commissioner in the meeting noted that Michigan's August primary date is late compared with other states and that moving the date could "change the vernacular of the way that it operates quite a bit."
