Walker finalizes automatic aid with Granville; fire department strategic plan, facility study underway

City Manager Sissons told the Walker City Commission on Sept. 22 that he signed a final automatic-aid agreement with Granville for fire services and that the documents are now finalized.
The agreement "should become effective. I think it's been effective anyways, but formally effective," Sissons said. The commission did not record a formal vote on the item at the meeting; Sissons described the signing as a concluding administrative step.
The Public Safety committee also reported at the meeting that the fire department is developing a strategic plan and that a building needs study is expected soon. Commissioner Babcock said the committee "is also expecting the building needs study to be done very shortly, so we should be seeing that soon," and noted the department is pursuing a strategic plan.
Commissioner comments at the Michigan Municipal League conference were cited to underscore regional interest: a commissioner said Granville representatives "were actually very, not only very much in support of the fire, the automatic aid agreement," which attendees described as long overdue.
No ordinance, resolution, or formal commission vote to adopt the agreement appears in the meeting transcript; the record indicates the agreement was signed and finalized by the city manager and that related departmental planning work is underway.
