A commissioner noted the county has about 100 of the current bulbs on hand and asked whether the board should continue to use existing stock or pursue a full LED retrofit. County staff said retrofitting fixtures to LEDs would make maintenance easier and that the state offers a reimbursement program that may cover up to 50% of retrofit costs for energy-efficiency measures under certain conditions.
Commissioners asked staff to prepare a ballpark estimate of the retrofit cost for both buildings and an estimate of monthly or annual energy savings so the board can evaluate payback and whether to apply for the state reimbursement. Staff said the lights are typically 32–42 watts and that LED replacements could reduce wattage roughly by half, producing significant energy savings; the presenter offered to return with cost and savings figures at the next meeting.
Commissioners did not authorize expenditure at the meeting but directed staff to research costs, reimbursement rules and likely savings and report back at the Oct. 6 meeting.
