The Geary County Commission voted to adopt a revised county policy and procedure manual — the employee handbook — with an effective date of Oct. 1, 2025.
County human-resources staff presented the revision, saying the final draft had been circulated for comment and that no further substantive changes were received by the deadline. The presenter told the commission the handbook will be posted on the county website and that departments will have a printed copy available; employees who want a personal hard copy may request one and pay the county’s copy fee.
The presenter asked the commission to approve the handbook “effective 10/01/2025.” A motion to adopt the handbook was made and seconded, and the commission approved the motion by voice vote.
The presenter described the employee acknowledgment process: employees will sign a receipt that they have reviewed the handbook and understand its location and requirements. Departments will keep a hard copy accessible for employees in the event of electronic-access problems. The speaker noted one minor printing issue — the sick-leave chart did not print correctly — and said that was corrected before final distribution.
Less-critical details discussed during the meeting included plans for an employee training day; the presenter said the sick-leave chart printing issue had been fixed and that the employee task force would coordinate department participation in an optional costume contest on Halloween, which the commission authorized as "work-appropriate costumes."
