A meeting of the Vigo County Council read formal notices setting public hearings and adoption meetings for the 2026 budgets of Terre Haute International Airport and the Vigo County Solid Waste Management District on Sept. 2, 2025. The notices were read aloud by a meeting clerk and posted online at www.budgetnotices.in.gov.
The notices state that complete budget estimates by fund and department may be inspected at 581 South Airport Street, Terre Haute, Indiana 47803. The public hearing for the Terre Haute International Airport 2026 budget is scheduled for Sept. 18, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at 127 Oak Street, Terre Haute. The adoption meeting for that budget is scheduled for Oct. 14, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. at the same address. The clerk read that “any 10 or more taxpayers may object to the budget, tax rate or tax levy by filing an objection petition with the proper officers of Terre Haute International Airport not more than 7 days after the hearing,” and that if a petition is filed the airport must adopt a finding addressing the objections and testimony presented.
The clerk also read the notice for the Vigo County Solid Waste Management District. That notice listed the same hearing and adoption dates and locations and gave an estimated total of $442,700 for the Solid Waste Management District’s budget.
During the reading the clerk recited the formal heading: “Notice is hereby given to taxpayers of Terre Haute International Airport of Vigo County, Indiana, that the proper officers of Terre Haute International Airport will conduct a public hearing on the 2026 budget.” The clerk reiterated that the full estimates are available for inspection and referenced the statewide budget-notices website.
The transcript records the Terre Haute International Airport estimate as “3,393,580 thousand dollars.” That phrasing in the reading is ambiguous (it could mean $3,393,580 or—if read literally—$3,393,580,000). The meeting record does not clarify which numeric interpretation was intended; the amount is therefore recorded here as stated in the reading and identified as ambiguous.
No public comment was recorded during the item. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Councilman Steve Ellis, seconded by Councilwoman Nancy Allsup; the council approved the motion by voice vote and adjourned.
