Staff report: letting schedule and project updates; North Ninth, Morehouse and Soldiers’ Home projects shift timelines

MPO staff reported several schedule changes on Sept. 11: the North Ninth Street letting was delayed to January due to environmental review, Morehouse Road phase 2 was delayed by utilities, and Lafayette and West Lafayette projects saw timing shifts.
MPO staff presented the quarterly project progress summary on Sept. 11 and highlighted several schedule updates and issues affecting local projects and the INDOT 18‑month letting list.
Tim (MPO staff) said the North Ninth Street road project letting was pushed back to January because of delays in the environmental review; staff said the change still fits within the fiscal year so funds are not at risk. The Morehouse Road project completed phase 1 and the punch list in November, but utility delays pushed the start of phase 2 later than expected; staff said acceleration costs are anticipated and will appear in future reports.
For Lafayette, the South Ninth Street project was split into phases and the letting for the Ortman to Veners Memorial Parkway phase was shifted to February. West Lafayette’s Soldiers’ Home Road public comment period for phase 1 closed Aug. 26 and staff said West Lafayette received several public comments they are addressing. Tim also reported that the county bridge inspection program is progressing and final reports are expected soon.
Doug presented the INDOT 18‑month letting list, noting most projects remain on track. He identified State Road 225 (project with a January 4 bid letting) and the North Ninth Street project on the January letting; an emergency vehicle preemption traffic signals project in West Lafayette moved to an April 8 letting. Several other projects were noted as continuing on schedule; staff said they will continue to monitor and report.
