The Vigo County Area Plan Commission approved rezoning of properties at 3250 and 3450 Locust Street from M2 (Heavy Industrial District) to C5 (General Central Business District) to allow continued operation and expansion of rental storage units, commissioners said at the September meeting.
Staff and the planning department recommended approval, saying the intended use would not alter neighborhood character or create significant problems for the surrounding area. The commission also noted that the parcel at 3450 Locust Street had already been subdivided into two lots and that the Sycamore Storage two‑lot subdivision was approved at the Aug. 6, 2025, Area Plan Commission meeting.
Jeff Lewellen, an attorney with Wilkinson Law Firm, spoke for the petitioner, Sycamore Storage LLC. "I am appearing on behalf of the petitioner Sycamore Storage LLC," Lewellen told the commission, saying the business has operated at the site for a decade and is seeking the rezoning so a subdivision can be finalized and additional storage units can be added.
Commissioners voted to approve the rezoning. The motion passed with no recorded roll call totals in the meeting record.
The approval allows the previously submitted Sycamore Storage subdivision to be finalized and recorded and clears the zoning issue that staff said was not appropriate for the planned expansion under the M2 classification.
