Gibson County detention center reports average daily population of 111; staffing and hires discussed

A county public-safety representative opened the meeting with staffing and detention statistics for August.
The report said the sheriff’s office has 19 deputy positions filled in the field; one deputy, Wyatt Lashbrook, will start the academy this week. Corrections staffing shows 21 budgeted positions with 16 filled and five people currently in training. Staff said one corrections officer expects to leave the department for relocation.
Communications staffing was reported as eight of nine positions filled; a new communications officer started last week and the final position was expected to be filled on the 15th of the month. The speaker said part-time staff are stepping up and that at least one leave request may be pending.
Detention numbers for August averaged 111 inmates: about 96 male and 15 female. Work-release averaged 32 people, with the speaker reporting 28 male and five female participants on average.
The presenter concluded by inviting questions; none were raised on the staffing summary during the meeting.
