Monrovia council unanimously approves zoning amendment adding density bonus for inclusionary housing

The Monrovia City Council on Sept. 16 voted to approve an amendment to the city’s zoning code, Monrovia Municipal Code Title 17, adding a density bonus and removing provisions described in the staff presentation as no longer compliant with recent law changes.
City staff presented an extensive slide presentation about the proposed changes and how they affect the city’s inclusionary housing rules; Councilmember Sergio Jimenez and other council members asked clarifying questions during the presentation. No members of the public spoke on the item. The council moved to approve the ordinance amendment, and the motion passed on a roll-call vote recorded as unanimous.
The amendment, as presented at the hearing, updates how Monrovia’s inclusionary-housing requirements interact with a newly required density-bonus mechanism and removes a provision cited in the presentation as section 17.44.020 that staff said was no longer compliant.
