District reports $11.2 million beginning balance; board approves 2026-27 budget calendar

The business office reported the district's beginning fund balance as approximately $11.2 million, an increase of roughly $683,000 from prior estimates. Staff attributed the increase to additional revenues from the Education Service District and to some unspent expenditures at fiscal year-end.
Finance staff explained the timing on a security grant tied to House Bill 2026 (the ADM Security Grant). The Oregon Department of Education issued the 2024-25 allocation earlier than expected; finance staff recorded the revenue on July 1 so the funds are recognized in the current year fiscal statements. The board was told the auditors will review the timing and accounting treatment during the upcoming audit.
Staff also reported a projected reduction in the district's Student Investment Account allocation (about $159,000 less than the preliminary estimate for the coming biennium) and modest changes to the high school success and early literacy allocations compared with the governor's recommendation.
On enrollment, staff reported the district is up about 29 students compared with the last report, which staff said would improve revenues if the trend holds.
The board then approved the 2026-27 budget calendar. The motion to accept the calendar was made and seconded; roll-call votes recorded in the minutes show four board members voting in favor at the time the roll call was read aloud (Nancy, Diana, Don and Rebecca).
