Commission previews CodeArt 2025 programming, artist workshops and recruitment for three upcoming seats

Public art staff on Sept. 18 previewed upcoming programming for CodeArt 2025 and related public engagement, and asked commissioners to help with outreach to downtown businesses and recruit candidates for three opening seats on the Public Art Commission.
Workshops, museum tour and artist-in-residence Staff said the artist-in-residence Kiana Hanermont will lead a photo-weaving workshop about home and belonging and asked participants to bring photographs and images for an upcoming class. Staff also said the Palo Alto Museum will host a brief tour of the Arnottal frescoes on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.; Eventbrite registration and a QR code were included in the meeting materials and staff said space is limited.
CodeArt event logistics and business outreach Staff displayed the upgraded CodeArt website, program maps and short videos of projection-mapping and urban interventions planned for the event. The commission discussed schedules for performing artists, an information kiosk at Lytton Plaza, volunteer roles handing out maps and materials, and an outreach effort to downtown businesses to offer “CodeArt specials” during the event. Commissioners volunteered to canvass business corridors; one commissioner volunteered to cover University Avenue between Emerson and High Street.
Commission recruitment and thanks to staff Staff reminded commissioners that three seats on the Public Art Commission will open soon and asked members to refer candidates. Multiple commissioners offered farewell remarks for commissioners who will be finishing service after the next meeting and praised staff by name — Elise, Nadia, Denise and Amanda — for event preparation and outreach.
