Waterfront opens lobster-season staging reservations; expands stalls to 32 and allows two-per-person

The Waterfront Department told the Harbor Commission Sept. 18 that it has begun accepting reservations and prepayments for lobster-trap staging spaces ahead of the commercial and recreational lobster seasons.
Operations Manager Nathan Aldridge said staging began Sept. 17 with a reservation system available by phone or in person at the Harbor Master’s office. Notable changes this year include increasing reservable stalls from 27 to 32, allowing each fisherman to reserve up to two stalls, a rate of $8 per day and a maximum of roughly 16 days of staging per reservation. Aldridge said the department coordinated marking and signage with parking staff and administrative personnel to implement the program and that the harbor is prepared to support commercial fishermen as the season opens.
Aldridge reviewed season dates: recreational season begins at 6 a.m. on the Friday before the first Wednesday in October and runs through the March period noted in state regulations; commercial season runs Oct. 1 through March 18. He said staff continues to coordinate with the commercial-fishing community to minimize conflicts with trailer parking and recreational use.
