Council hears update on SR-177 environmental study; construction years remain several years out

Hooper City staff told the council that the environmental study for the SR-177 corridor segment is underway and likely to finish by the end of next year, with construction and related infrastructure work not expected for several years.
A staff member said the environmental study covers the corridor from near West Pointe to 4000 South and that the study team expects to complete field work and analysis by the end of 2026. The staff member said the study area on the map is about 2,500 feet wide in places to accommodate a divided highway and that final alignment choices and right-of-way needs will be clarified once the environmental work is complete.
Staff said that after the environmental phase, the agency expects several additional years for right-of-way acquisition and utility relocation; construction of the corridor segment was estimated to begin in roughly four to five years at the earliest.
Residents and councilmembers asked how and when affected property owners would be notified. Staff said the study team will hold public outreach meetings (staff referenced an initial meeting planned in November at Rocky Mountain) and that clearer maps and notification details should be available after the environmental study is finalized.
No council action was taken; staff said they would continue to monitor the study and relay public-notice and outreach opportunities to residents.
