'Victory Over Addiction' resource fair and recovery walk set for Veterans Park on Sept. 27

Organizers of Victory Over Addiction told KWCD’s First Watch that a resource fair and recovery walk will be held at Veterans Park on Saturday, Sept. 27, with booths opening at 8 a.m. and a walk down Fry Boulevard at 9 a.m.
Becky Smith of Parents of Addicted Loved Ones said the event gathers resources for addiction and behavioral‑health services and offers support without shame. Theodore Maguire, community impact specialist at Community Medical Services, said the walk emphasizes public, visible recovery: “We should recover loudly so people don't have to die quietly,” he said.
Organizers said more than 20 services will be at the fair, including recovery homes, county health services, overdose‑prevention programs, harm‑reduction providers and support groups. The walk is typically about a half hour long, organizers said, and participants will carry signs with recovery messages.
