Dixon Unified and teachers’ association approve MOU on comparison-district process; board calls it a first step

The Dixon Unified School District board on Sept. 18 approved a memorandum of understanding with the Dixon Teachers Association that documents agreed-upon comparison districts to be used in future negotiations.
Assistant Superintendent Dan Scudero and Superintendent Brett Barley described the MOU as the product of spring negotiations and said both sides requested the agreement be memorialized and presented to the board. Barley and multiple trustees characterized the MOU as a "momentous" and "catalytic" step to increase transparency in bargaining and to provide clearer data for future talks.
Board members praised the move as a foundation for improved labor relations. One trustee said the MOU will help create "visibility, line of sight" on which districts are used for comparison and whether the parties are in alignment. The board approved the MOU by unanimous vote.
