The Northern Nye County Hospital District Board voted 3-0 on a motion to pay past-due invoices to SiXCo and to continue SiXCo services on a month-to-month basis, terminable at will.
Trustee Nancy moved to pay the past-due invoices and to continue the vendor’s services month to month; Trustee Don seconded the motion. After brief discussion and public comment, the board called for a vote and the motion passed unanimously.
The decision followed discussion about outstanding contractual and reimbursement questions. Trustee Nancy said the district had received services and therefore “we’re really legally bound to do that,” citing a written explanation from the district attorney. A public commenter questioned whether the board had decided whether the vendor’s contract was terminated or would continue month to month; that question prompted trustees to restate the motion to include the month-to-month language before the final vote.
Andrea, a district staff member, told the board SiXCo could remain on a month-to-month basis and that prior motions asking for contract renegotiation remained relevant. Trustee Don said he has contacted HRSA and was awaiting guidance on whether the district must solicit competitive bids to secure reimbursement for services; he said he planned to follow up with HRSA and update the board. Trustee Nancy said she did not want to lose the HRSA grant while contract issues were resolved.
Board members and members of the public also referenced a written memo from the district attorney (Brian Coonsie) explaining the district’s legal obligation to pay for services already provided. The board did not adopt any long-term contract at the meeting and did not set a timeline for completing renegotiation; trustees asked staff to pursue updates and report back.
The motion resolved only the immediate payment of invoices and short-term continuation of services. A public speaker and at least one trustee emphasized that a separate decision on termination or a longer contract remained outstanding and would require further board action.
The board asked staff to provide updates about HRSA’s guidance and any negotiations with SiXCo at future meetings.
