The Galveston City Council took several formal actions by recorded motion during its Sept. 18 meeting. The council approved a package of consent items (11a through 11x) by unanimous vote.
Key items the council acted on after separate motions:
Project Bounty: Council directed the city manager and staff to continue negotiations on an economic development proposal dubbed "Project Bounty" and to bring a formal agreement back to council after legal review. The motion passed unanimously.
Opioid settlement: The council authorized the city manager or designee and the city attorney to participate in a settlement agreement with the Texas Attorney Generals office related to opioid litigation. The motion passed unanimously.
First Street Initiative: Council adopted a resolution authorizing the city to apply for the Texas Historical Commission's First Street Initiative program to support historic-district revitalization and authorized the city manager to execute required program documents. The motion passed unanimously.
Boards and commissions: Council approved numerous appointments and reappointments across boards and commissions, including planning commission members, WARs board appointments, reappointments to the building board of adjustments and appeals, Landmark Commission, and tree committee nominations. Council also deferred action on some arts and cultural boards pending structural review and identified remaining vacancies for follow-up.
Procedurally, the council also nominated Sally Branson as the Texas Municipal League regional director for the region and voted unanimously. Several items listed as consent were approved as a block by unanimous vote.
