Council approves beer and wine license for Summit Pub at BP; aldermen ask staff to study gaming-machine limits

On Sept. 2 the Common Council approved Resolution 25-R330A granting a new Class B fermented malt beverage and Class C wine license to Pub Summit 16 LLC for on-premise consumption at the Summit BP location.
Applicant representative Ajit Asavalia told the council the business is considering bringing in gaming machines: “We are thinking about that. Yeah,” he said after being asked by Alderman Altman Cloth whether gaming machines were planned. Asavalia indicated the business would consult legal/consultant advice and return to council if needed.
Council members raised neighborhood concerns and logistical questions. Alderman Rosick asked about parking and said the location “needs some TLC” and expressed hope the business’ investment would improve the site. Alderman Shellpepper noted that approving a beer-and-wine license “doesn’t have any bearing on whether a liquor license gets approved in the future,” underscoring that separate liquor-licensing decisions would be considered on their own merits.
After discussion the council approved the license by unanimous roll call.
Later in the meeting Alderman Jennifer Altman Cloth asked staff to research whether and how the city could regulate the proliferation of gambling machines; another alderman asked that be placed on a future agenda for staff review.
Action: Council approved Resolution 25-R330A (grant new Class B fermented malt beverage and Class C wine license to Pub Summit 16 LLC); roll call unanimous. Council directed staff to investigate city authority and options regarding gaming machines and report back at a future meeting.
