Napa County and Cal Fire officials on Sept. 9 reported the Pickett Incident was fully contained after burning roughly 6,819 acres and described a rapid, multi‑agency response that limited structure loss and protected populated areas.
At a joint report to the Board of Supervisors, Napa County Fire Chief Jeff Greenberg said the incident started Aug. 21 near the end of Pickett Road and spread into steep, rugged terrain toward Simmons Canyon, Robert Louis Stevenson State Park and parts of Pope Valley. “I am thankful today to tell you that it is a 100% contained,” Greenberg said, describing sustained dozer, engine and air operations and an extended period of heavy equipment work to prepare the burned area for rains.
