Jurupa Valley honors two students who helped contain loose bull at local high school

Two Jurupa Valley students received certificates from the City Council on Sept. 18 after they helped deputies contain a loose bull that was on Jurupa Valley High School grounds.
Mayor Buxton and council members recognized 17‑ and 14‑year‑old Vincent Garcia and Carlos Garcia (ages stated during the ceremony) for assisting deputies and helping ensure student and staff safety on what staff described as a hectic first day of school. A brief video shown during the presentation depicted deputies responding to the animal on campus; the council praised the students for quick thinking and courage.
Deputy city staff read a certificate of achievement for each student noting their cooperation with the Riverside County Sheriff Department and their assistance in calming and containing the animal. The certificates were signed by the mayor. Council members asked the students to tell the council about what happened; Vincent said his mother called him, they got a rope and helped deputies restrain the animal until authorities could secure the scene.
The council encouraged other students and residents to exercise caution around large animals and thanked school staff and deputies for their response. The city photographer took photos and the certificates were presented to the students during the meeting.
