Council delays easement releases after staff flags possible address errors and unusually wide easement strips

The Lago Vista City Council did not act on proposed releases or vacations of multiple utility easements following staff and public comments that packet materials lacked maps, accurate addresses and that at least one easement appeared unusually wide.
A resident and petitioner-focused speaker noted that some listed addresses did not match the county appraisal district records and that one parcel listed for release does not exist in the property database. Staff told council three of the seven listed properties looked like lot consolidations rather than narrow, unused utility easements; one easement in question measured roughly 65 feet wide by about 120 feet long in staff's on-site review.
City staff advised the council the resolutions for the easement releases were not ready for tonight's vote and said staff will prepare documents and bring them back, likely on the next consent agenda or at a special meeting scheduled Sept. 25 for related items. Public works will vet each easement and provide a report describing the type (drainage, utility), history and whether public infrastructure would be affected.
