District staff outlined the Employee Representative Committee (ERC) process, explaining how school-based representatives submit questions and how the district handles responses.
Matthew Hodson, supervisor of middle and junior high education, said each school elects an ERC member in August; parish winners for teacher of the year at the three levels are automatic members. Hodson described a monthly workflow in which ERC members collect questions from their schools, meet the principal first to see whether the principal has the answer, and then submit remaining questions via a Google form. Hodson and other staff review questions, present them at principals’ meetings and then bring items to the ERC for further discussion.
Hodson emphasized that the process involves discussion and staff work; answers are not simply produced without review. Board members praised the structure and noted the potential for social media to circulate partial answers; Hodson said staff aim to review and coordinate responses before public dissemination.
The committee did not take formal action on the ERC process at the meeting.
