Committee approves $157,307 budget for Schreiber Elementary security fencing project

The Buildings, Food Service & Transportation Committee recommended issuance of a notice to proceed to Cherami and Grooves Architects for plans and specifications for a security fencing project at Schreiber Elementary School and established a project budget of $157,307 to be drawn from the district building fund.

The recommendation directed staff to advertise for bids and to report any major project changes to the buildings committee prior to advertising. The committee also authorized the board president or superintendent to sign necessary documents related to the project. Committee members moved and seconded the recommendation; no public objections were recorded at the committee meeting.

District staff presented a map and slide package showing the proposed fence layout; presenters noted the green area on the slide represented the fence alignment and explained the design intends to keep students away from the bus circle and other high-traffic areas. Committee members asked about specific hardware and access controls — one member noted the cost drivers included panic-bar apparatus and reinforced push gates, seven-foot fence height, bored concrete posts, architect and engineering fees, and contingency costs.

Committee members asked that any major design changes be brought back to the committee before bids are advertised. The recommendation will be forwarded to the full board for final approval and contract execution.
