Committee approves waiver for statewide referee training at South Down, Terrebonne High

Committee members moved and seconded the recommendation and, after public comment, heard no objections and advanced the measure to the full board.
Eddie Veda, who identified himself as representing the Thibodaux Baseball Association under the LHSAA umbrella, told the committee the event is a biannual certification requirement for officials. He said instruction would include classroom work, oral instruction and controlled field demonstrations; he said there would be no live pitching and that the Terrebonne High coaching staff had agreed to support the field component.
Committee members asked whether attendees would be statewide; Veda replied the camps would draw officials from across Louisiana and that several regional sessions are scheduled between November and February so officials can choose a convenient date. Veda said the association has about 51 officials in its membership, about 35 of whom require the camp for certification, and that fees collected would cover custodial costs, feeding and the state-required $15 per attendee fee.
Board members discussed whether custodial fees could be waived at the stadium and were told any waiver would be a separate decision at a full-board meeting. After the public comment period and committee discussion, the recommendation carried forward without objection.
