Trustees review fall projects, funerals and Wreaths Across America planning

During the Sept. 11 meeting trustees reviewed routine cemetery operations and community outreach plans for fall.
Superintendent Joyce reported she has been repainting the gates at VZ Cemetery with a rust converter and plans to address additional gates at Tonnery when time allows. She said she is conserving well water and avoiding unnecessary use of the 400-foot well for stone cleaning until conditions warrant it. Joyce also noted a funeral posted on Facebook for Saturday and that she contacts the police when large gatherings are expected.
Trustees discussed fall maintenance at the Poor Farm site, including spreading loam/topsoil, a possible cover crop in spring and a small delineation (posts and chain) to mark the new cemetery area. They suggested the capital reserve fund could cover some illustrative improvements such as a low-cost delineation or corner markers.
On outreach, the superintendent reported ongoing recruitment for Wreaths Across America wreath sponsorships; as of the meeting there were about 173 wreaths still to sponsor. She said she will approach businesses and community groups and that 3 Pawns has invited a presentation for veterans. The trustees discussed reserving a table at the town harvest lunch on Oct. 15 and at other community events to promote wreath sponsorships and cemetery services.
No formal votes were taken on operations items; the superintendent will continue to schedule painting, maintenance and outreach and report progress at the next meeting.
